My dog has been diagnosed with bone cancer recently. I am very hesitant to continue with his heartworm medication [pharmaceutical name removed] due to the debate about vaccines actually causing cancer and some of the other diseases cats/dogs get. What else can you suggest?

It is not recommended to take your pup off his heartworm prevention. Depending on where you live, they can be very important in your pet’s heath. All of the heartworm preventions are quite safe. If you would prefer an herbal prevention, you can try our Inulin PK that is a natural dewormer and helps with internal parasites. Some vaccines have shown to cause cancerous growths at the site of injection. This happens most often in cats (but is still quite rare) and causes a sarcoma in the soft tissue at the site the vaccine. Since your pup has been diagnosed with an osteosarcoma, this isn’t likely to be vaccine related.

Healthy diet is important in cancer patients, but I would caution against raw food for your pup while he is fighting cancer. His body is much more vulnerable now, and a small infection from raw food could be much more concerning for him than it may for another pet. You can keep him on the exact same diet, just consider popping it in the oven until it is cooked through to eliminate any harmful bacteria. As far as contraindications, our supplements don’t have any either with prescription medications or conditions (aside from pregnancy/lactation).

You may find info stating that certain herbs should be used in caution along with certain drugs or conditions, however all of our supplements have been tested for safety. The concentrations of any herbs that may have contraindications is far too low to be of any concern.
